Fiona, this is such an imaginative piece. What stayed with me is how survival, grief, love, and hope all kept moving together, even inside a world unraveling around them. Lyra and Tom’s commitment to keep fighting for each other gave the story real emotional center, because beneath the supernatural danger, it remained deeply about devotion, courage, and choosing life when everything felt uncertain. Grateful for the creativity and heart you brought to something both haunting and tender.
Love me some blood splattered paisley pillows, lol. Perfect imagery. And I do so appreciate showing how a secure power couple can operate. Care, consideration, sacrificing personal gain for the common good. Allowing hope to blossom within the rigid reactions to danger. How to balance survival with stolen moments of safety and coregulation. How to keep the eyes curiously fixed on uncertain horizons. How to keep going, especially when energy and resources are drained. I appreciate the universal themes subtly explored throughout.
Thanks Jamie! 😀 This means so much to me! I struggled throughout writing the story with whether or not they would survive, but I felt that the story would not have landed as well if they hadn't. The life growing inside her really sealed the deal for me. A hope for all mankind during so much uncertainty. Thank you for taking the time to read it, and commenting.
And in true Fiona Fashion, I just edited it to fix my mistakes…but no reason to read again. Nothing in the story changed, just some grammar issues. 😂 It happens in my bubbles. I always hit publish too soon, convincing myself it was perfect just the way it is.
I have been guilty of this impulsivity as well. I'm working on improving my patience and reworking a draft until changing anything else would weaken the delivery.
I always say I'm gonna do better and then never do! 😂 I really have to learn that patience too. I'll try to hear Jamie inside my head telling me to wait right before I hit publish! 😂
This is so good! True love at the center of it all, and the will to continue for those that come after. Thank you for this. Love, Virg
Thank you Virg! I appreciate the read and the comment! So glad you enjoyed it!

Omg, Fiona, that was gripping!! I was holding my breath through the whole thing. I love the hope that shines at the end.✨✨
Oh I'm so glad you liked it! 😀 That means a lot coming from you. You're an amazing writer.
You really built the tension well and the sci-fi aspects were terrifying. Giant black man-eating spiders from the sky… yeah, nope!!! 😱😱😱
I would just have taken myself out right when I saw the first spider. 😂
Yep, me too! Cause F that.
I'm reminded of NOPE 😂
💯💯💯
That’s was a wonderful ride! Thank you, Fiona. I can visualize so much of it as it “happened.”

I will endeavor to listen to prudent Jamie more, too.
Deal! 😁
I'm so glad you enjoyed it, Kim! I really try to do these stories justice. You gave a great prompt!
